In my opinion, DRS from lapped cars should be scrapped.
At the moment, the majority of leagues have a fair amount of inactive players, and as a result, in almost every race, backmarkers dictate the final results because of the DRS they provide to trailing cars.
For example, let's say that we are racing in a two-car league with 100% race distance.
If we are lucky enough, our league will have only 6 inactive players.
Their cars are going to be lapped approximately 6 to 8 times depending on the track.
So, it is evident that 12 cars are going to be lapped 7 times, which means each of our cars is going to encounter a backmarker 84 times during the race.
A relatively experienced player can easily understand when to boost in order to position themselves well to get the DRS.
If this happens 20 times out of the 84 for Player A versus 16 out of 84 for Player B, this translates to a 4-second gap.
We should race and find a way to win against our opponents, rather than lurking every time we see a lapped car just to use our boost.
I would have been okay not seeing a change on this only if:
1) DRS was less powerful
2) Inactive players were getting kicked by the system on a regular basis (most importantly)
I would argue that players who fail to set up their cars should receive a DNS (Did Not Start), but I know this is very controversial.
Anyway, Jack, I think it would be nice to have a poll about this.
I am very curious to see what everyone thinks.
Thank you.
You're right, they could reduce the power of DRS and also make it a league rule to disable and enable it whenever they want.
