This bug has been around for years. I reported it back then, but it seems my report was ignored. It tends to be very random. Today, in my league race, at least four players experienced the bug on the last lap, at different percentages and points on the track—60% KERS, 75%, 40%—but they all agreed they encountered the bug and lost positions at the end because they didn’t realize it was turning off even though they were pressing the button.

From the title I thought you were going to describe that boost was stuck on but you are saying that it is turning off, is that right?

This is actually an intended behaviour where the driver decides that they can't escape collision with the car ahead so they back off and release the boost. It was added with W2W racing and I can appreciate, especially in 2D, it can be confusing. I see you are playing in 2D, so it makes sense that you have made this report. It may have been clearer on high zoom, where you can see the battles unfolding in more detail.

How would you like this to be displayed in the UI when it happens? There must be a way we can communicate clearly so that managers are aware. I myself have been caught out by it a couple of times too, even in 3D, so I understand your frustration.

Hi Jack,

If the goal is to avoid a collision—which would make sense in a wheel-to-wheel situation to prevent a head-on collision with an opponent—I think there should be some kind of system that indicates when KERS is available, when it’s about to cut out, and when it does cut out. For example, the KERS bar could be green by default to show it’s active, and when it’s about to cut out, it turns yellow, so the user is alerted; when it turns red, it means it’s about to cut out; and when it turns green again, KERS is reactivated. (Not necessarily those colors, but something like a traffic light where the user realizes it’s about to lock up). This could be an interesting solution to give the user a tool to stay alert and avoid holding down a button that’s no longer working for even a second and a half—which could easily cost them the race.

Although I say it’s been years, since I remember that in the past, long before the update, I’d also hold down the KERS button, and it would turn off, and in 3D, when I played like that, it was very noticeable—my rivals would pull away even though I was pressing KERS, and it just wasn’t working.

If this is a new feature, it could be a way to alert the player and thus prevent them from unknowingly losing KERS while in the air.

Best regards, Jack.
